The Oregon affiliate of the NFB provides programs and services to blind Oregonians.
Some of our programs include:
- Educational programs for children and youth
- Scholarships for blind college students
- Workplace advocacy for blind workers in a variety of professions
- Support for Parents of Blind Children and Blind Parents
- General support for members throughout the state
The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
- Blind people are simply normal people who cannot see--we are not defective sighted people.
- Blind people comprise a cross-section of the broader society and, therefore, are not all alike.
- The real problem of blindness is not the loss of vision itself, but the public’s misunderstandings, and misconceptions about it.
